Introduction. The article is devoted to the difficulties involved in translating economic terminology from German into Ukrainian. The aim of the study is to identify the key linguistic and domainspecific problems that arise in the transfer of economic terms and to develop effective strategies for addressing them. Special attention is paid to the analysis of homonymy, polysemy, neologisms, anglicisms, and complex German compounds in economic texts.
The purpose. The aim of the present study is to systematically analyze the specific difficulties in
translating economic terminology from German into Ukrainian and to determine the linguistic, subjectspecific, and cultural factors that influence the accurate rendering of economic terms. The focus of the investigation is on identifying key problem areas such as homonymy, polysemy, neologisms, complex compounds, and borrowings from other languages.
The methods. The main specialized methods employed were terminological, contrastive, and
translation studies analyses, which made it possible to identify the structural-semantic features of German economic terminology and determine the methods for translating it into Ukrainian. Using the complete sampling method, economic terminology from various sectors of the economy was selected.
The main results of the study. The study systematizes the key difficulties in translating German economic terminology into Ukrainian, identifying homonymy, polysemy, neologisms, Anglicisms, abbreviations, and complex German compounds as the most problematic areas. It demonstrates that translation problems are not purely linguistic but also depend on economic, legal, and cultural factors, especially in texts with normative or contractual functions.
Originality. The originality of the study lies in its integrative approach to economic terminology as a
dynamic and evolving system shaped by globalization, digitalization, and international professional communication. Unlike studies that focus mainly on isolated linguistic issues, this research combines terminological, contrastive, and translation-oriented analysis to reveal the interaction between language, subject knowledge, and context. The paper provides a structured typology of translation difficulties specific to German–Ukrainian economic discourse and substantiates the need for adaptive, context-sensitive translation strategies, thereby contributing both to translation theory and to practical translator training.
Conclusions and specific suggestions of the author. The study leads to the conclusion that German economic terminology represents a highly dynamic and structurally complex subsystem of professional language, the translation of which into Ukrainian is accompanied by significant linguistic, terminological, and extralinguistic difficulties. These difficulties arise primarily from homonymy, polysemy, the rapid emergence of neologisms, the widespread use of Anglicisms, abbreviations, and complex German compounds, as well as from differences in legal and economic systems. These conclusions and recommendations aim to enhance the accuracy, consistency, and communicative adequacy of German–Ukrainian economic translations and to contribute to the further development and standardization of Ukrainian economic terminology in the context of globalization and digitalization.
