Abstract

Introduction. The article characterizes the semantics of the creative bases of the surnames of the Chudniv district of the Zhytomyr region of the «National book of memory of the victims of the Holodomorof 1932–1933 in Ukraine», the source base for which was primarily the funds of the State Archive of the Zhytomyr region and the archive of the Office of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region. The historical anthroponymicon of Zhytomyr Region (XVI–XVII centuries), in particular the lexicalsemantic features of surnames, was studied by L. V. Yashchuk. I. I. Kozubenko analyzed the ratio of unofficial and official names of the Central Polissia, having studied 5,000 unofficial hereditary names collected in 87 settlements of the modern Zhytomyr region, describing the process of their emergence and development, identifying extra- and intralingual factors of the evolution of unofficial names. The proposed investigation is a continuation of a series of studies devoted to the anthroponymy of the Zhytomyr region of the first half of the 20th century, which was not the object of a special onomastic study.
According to the semantics of the creative bases of the surnames of the Chudniv district of the Zhytomyr region of the «National Book of Memory of the Victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 in Ukraine», they are classified into three groups: 1) surnames based on anthroponyms (Christian and Slavic autochthonous names); 2) surnames based on appellative-anthroponymic names; 3) surnames based on appellative names.
Thepurpose. The purpose of our article is to characterize the surnames of Chudnivshchyna «National Book of Memory of the Victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 in Ukraine. Zhytomyr region», which are based on appellative-anthroponymic and appellative names.
Originality. This investigation is a continuation of a series of studies devoted to the anthroponymy of the Zhytomyr region of the first half of the 20th century, which was not yet the object of a special onomastic study.
The methods. The research was carried out by using the descriptive method, in particular, the inventory and systematization of lexical material with the involvement of linguistic methods of lexicalsemantic and etymological analysis.
Main results of the study. Among the surnames, which are based on appellative-anthroponymic names of the "nomina personalia" category, there are widely represented names of people based on internal features and behavioral characteristics: Baidyuk, Zhigan, Zabara, Khytrych, Shmorgun; as well as by external characteristics, physiological features: Dzyubenko, Kotsyruba, Malyovaniy, Ryzhuk, Tovstukha. A number of surnames of this group contain the prefix bez- (Bezvershuk, Bezklepkiy, Beznosenko, Bezusiy, Bezuh) or have a composite structure (Bilonoga, Varyvoda, Sukhorebriy, Trigub, Chernous). In the surnames of the «nominaimpersonalia» category, the vocabulary for the designation of representatives of the fauna is most fully reflected: Boroznyak, Volyk, Zavruk, Solovijchuk, Shpak; household items, tools:
Grebenyuk, Kotsyuba, Mitlevych, Motuzko, Stukalo.
Appellative surnames are most often motivated by names based on the field of activity or profession (the most common among them: Humenyuk, Melnyk, Melnychuk / Melnichuk, Shevchuk); and oikonyms, including Zhytomyr region: Bystrytskyi, Hrushetskyi, Myropilskyi, Yasnogorodskyi.
Conclusions and specific suggestions of the author. Further work on the study of anthroponyms of Zhytomyr Oblast will make it possible to determine interlinguistic, regional, dialectal phenomena in them, as well as the specificity of their morpheme structure.
