FROM THE WORKSHOP OF A DIALECTOLOGIST AND EDITOR OF THE GREAT POLAND REGIONAL DICTIONARIES-PROBLEMS NOT ONLY SCIENTIFIC

Анотація

Introduction. The article discusses the practical aspect of a dialectologist's work with representatives of the local community. In the context of the difficulty of obtaining informants in field research, the call for cooperation with the non-scientific community, especially combining research tasks with education at different levels, assumes new importance.
The purpose. Indication of critical factors in the cooperation of scientists and regionalists in educational projects ending with the publication of the Greater Poland Regional Dictionaries series.
Method and originality. The author of the article discussed only the three most important factors, i.e. the selection of dictionary content, the method of defining entries, the presence of photographs in the publication. The above-mentioned elements are implemented in a slightly different way than in traditional dialect dictionaries, because scientific goals must coincide with the expectations of direct recipients (local environment) – a number of the presented activities can be considered methodological innovation. The
dictionary created in the project, containing in the introduction and definitions a description of the language and culture of the studied small towns, especially villages, ennobles their inhabitants, which translates into an increase in linguistic and cultural awareness, as well as an increase in self-esteem, especially among participants in educational projects (students, their families, informants). Thus, the social function fulfilled by the contemporary activities of dialectologists from the Dialectological Laboratory of the Adam Mickiewicz University cannot be overestimated. Consulting with the local community the contents of the dictionary, usually the meanings of specific words or photographs of designators, makes people completely unfamiliar with lexicography become part of the editorial process. In a collaboration conceived in this way, the perspective of the researcher, the layperson and both becomes apparent.
Results. Reconciling the needs of dialectologists and the expectations of the local environment is necessary to conduct field research in Greater Poland, and what is more, it produces satisfactory scientific results. At the same time, the idea of a research university and the aspiration of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań to go beyond the walls of the university are being realised.
